Delbert James “Delfee” Bulman was born to Alton John and Helga Mae (Sadler) Bulman Jan. 22, 1926, in Preston, Minn. After graduating from Waukon High School he served in the US Army in the Pacific Theatre from 1945 to 1946. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Northeast Iowa, where he began farming with his uncle Fred. He married Eloise Virginia Quandahl June 11, 1950, at the Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Dorchester. Delbert and Eloise purchased the Bulman family farm from Fred in 1957. For 65 years, Delbert and Eloise developed and cared for the land while teaching their children and grandchildren the value of hard work, the importance of family and faith, love of country and conservative values. Delbert served as a trustee and elder as well as on the cemetery board for many years at Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church where he was a lifetime member. He was a loyal John Deere owner and loved to run his bulldozer on land improvement projects. He was handy around the farm, able to fix or repair almost anything that needed attention.
