Dorothy Neuzil, 86, of Spillville, died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at the Barthell O.E.S Home in Decorah. Mass of Christian Burial is at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Spillville, with Rev. Robert Gross officiating. Lector is Leslie Franzen. Offertory gift bearers are Larry and Karen. Organist is Lane Rich. Soloist is Lynette Wheeler. Hymns are “Here I Am Lord,” “Ave Maria,” “Eagles Wings” and “How Great Thou Art.” The St. Wenceslaus Choir also sang. Casket bearers are Dawn Kraft, Susan Schmitt, Galen Neuzil, William Ondrashek, Dean Moudry and David Mikesh. Interment is at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, Spillville. Arrangements are being handled by Schluter-Balik Funeral Home.

Dorothy Elizabeth (Ondrashek) Neuzil was born April 8, 1931, the daughter of William and Stella (Pavlovec) Ondrashek on the family farm near Fort Atkinson. She attended country school and St. John’s Catholic School. Dorothy married August “Gusty” Neuzil Oct. 13, 1952, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. Together they farmed in the area until 1960, when they moved to Spillville. Dorothy was a stay at home mom until Gusty passed away Nov. 30, 1978. Dorothy then worked at the Decorah Greenhouse, an egg processing plant in Calmar and the Spillville Locker until she retired. She was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. Dorothy enjoyed baking, gardening, yard work, growing flowers, scrap booking, listening to polka music and taking care of her kitties.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Larry (Jeanne) Neuzil, Spillville and Karen (Dennis) Franzen, St. Lucas; grandson, Leslie Franzen, Madison, Wis.; brother-in-law, Cyril (Becky) Neuzil, Fort Atkinson; sisters-in-law: Nancy Ondrashek, Fort Atkinson; Eleanor Jirak, Spillville; and Vicki Neuzil, Marion; along with many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, August Neuzil; parents, William and Stella (Pavlovec) Ondrashek; father and mother-in-law, John and Eleanora (Novak) Neuzil; daughter, in infancy, Elaine; brothers, Edward (Anna) Ondrashek and Donald Ondrashek; sisters, Adeline (Art) Mihm and Agnes (Jerome) Shindelar; brothers and sisters-in-law: Frank (Marlyse) Neuzil, Lewis Neuzil, Anthony Neuzil, Melvin Jirak and Justina (Curtis) Crabtree.
