Duane Henry, 80, of Decorah, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Center in West Union. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah. Burial is in St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery, Bluffton, at a later date. No formal service will be held. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is handling the arrangements.
Duane James Henry was born Sept. 24, 1936, the son of James and Dorothy (McCauley) Henry in Decorah. Duane graduated from Canton High School in 1954. He attended Loras College in Dubuque for one year and Mankato State in Mankato, Minn., for a short time. He traveled out west with friends to work on dams. He then returned and was married to Lois Gossman July 7, 1959, at St. Agnes-Plymouth Rock Catholic Church and they later divorced. Duane farmed and also worked construction with Jennerjohn-Holthaus and Carlson’s over the years. His health started to fail in January 2007 and he entered the Good Samaritan Home in West Union in the fall of 2015. Duane enjoyed bowling and pool league, fishing, hunting and reading. He was a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Bluffton.
Duane is survived by his four children: Daniel (Becky) Henry, La Crosse, Wis.; Angela (special friend, Rob Anderson) Henry, Ridgeway; David (Barb) Henry, Highlandville; and Julie (Dave) Brenno, Cresco; two grandchildren, Logan and Christopher Brenno; one brother, Jerome Henry, Decorah; one sister-in-law: Patricia Henry, Cresco; one niece, Susan (David) Hall; two nephews, Jim (Rhonda) Henry and Johnny (Lisa) Henry.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy (McCauley) Henry; two brothers, Earl Henry and Eldon Henry in infancy.
