Elaine K. Suhr, 74, of Decorah, died peacefully in her sleep July 29, 2016. Friends may leave private condolences or sign a guestbook at fjelstul.com.
Elaine was born Nov. 29, 1941, in Oelwein. She and Gary Suhr were married April 10, 1965. They bought a dairy farm and moved to Decorah in 1977. There, they worked the farm together and raised their family. She was one of the hardest workers there was. If there was work to be done, she did it, and did a good and thorough job. She liked to work for others; she was someone who showed her love by doing things for others, like cutting wood, mowing lawns, cooking and always making sure she had your favorite things to eat and drink on hand when you visited. She loved her kids and her grandkids fiercely, wanting them to grow up to be hardworking, responsible and caring people. Elaine was a spectacular caregiver for her husband, Gary, during his battle with cancer. Elaine was a private person, an introvert who never liked attention placed upon her in any way. So, out of respect for her and her wishes, there will be no memorial service; her family will gather to spread her ashes back into nature.
Survivors include her daughter, Julie (John Laughlin) Suhr of The Plains, Ohio; sons, Jeff (Amy) Suhr of Decorah, Matt (Jennifer) Suhr of Altoona, and Greg (Jill) Suhr of Decorah; and grandchildren: Alane Suhr, Meredith Suhr, Nathan Suhr, Brad Suhr, Abby Suhr, Daniel Suhr, Beth Suhr and Leah Suhr.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Gary in 2000 and her brother, Lyle Wilson of Dyersville.
