Elizabeth “Betty” Meinert

Elizabeth “Betty” Meinert, 79, of St. Lucas, died Sunday, April 12, 2020, at Good Samaritan Society in West Union. A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Luke Catholic Church, St. Lucas, with Rev. Aaron Junge as the celebrant. A private family burial will be held at St. Luke Catholic Cemetery, St. Lucas. Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time. Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Union, Iowa is assisting the family.

Elizabeth was born June 17, 1940, to Norbert and Angeline “Sabelka” Riehle, in rural Lawler. She graduated from Ft. Atkinson High School.

Betty was united in marriage with Virgil Meinert Sept. 21, 1968, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. She helped Virgil on the farm, and enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, embroidering, playing cards with family and friends and taking bus trips.

Surviving Betty are her siblings, Patricia (Charles) Humpal of Ridgeway and Robert (Bev) Riehle of Winthrop, N.Y.; nieces and nephews: Bronwen and Bill Pope of Nashville, Tenn., Kaylon and Wen Ling Riehle of Cicero, N.Y. and Acacie Riehle of Nashville, Tenn. and Kesiah and Matthew Stewart of Nashville, Tenn., Jeremy and Kristi Humpal of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a god-daughter, Deborah (Jon) Cleveland of Waukee; and many cousins and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, Aug. 12, 2017; and her parents, Norbert and Angeline Riehle.
