Frances I. Sullivan, age 89, of Decorah, went home to be with her Lord Friday morning, Jan. 22, 2021.

Frances Irene (Hull) Sullivan was born on January 15, 1932 to Leo and Agnes (Palmer) Hull in Russell, Iowa. She was raised on a farm there with brothers Howard and Carl, both deceased, and younger sister Pauline.  She graduated from Chariton High School in 1950.  She then lived in Ottumwa and Minneapolis where she met her husband, Robert Leland Sullivan.

Fran was united in marriage to Robert on April 7, 1956 in Russell. They made their first home in Austin, Minn., and soon moved to Manchester, where Fran worked in the local bank.  In 1957 they moved to Cedar Rapids, here their two children Brenda and Craig were born. They lived in the same home for over 55 years before they moved to Decorah in retirement in November 2003.

Fran attended Noelridge Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids and Stone Ridge Community Church in Decorah.  She was a faithful Christian who participated in women’s Bible studies and various volunteer activities in the church.  She was a very humble woman who always sought to make others feel welcome and valued.  She had a great sense of humor and dedication to her family and friends.  She and Robert (Bob) enjoyed a wonderful marriage and life together.  They travelled frequently on family vacations, enjoyed camping and canoeing and often traveled to visit friends and family.  She was a joyful homemaker and had several part-time jobs as the children grew.  When she moved Decorah, she enjoyed spending time with ladies at Red Hat gatherings.  She enjoyed spending time with her six grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bob and Fran sold their home in Decorah and became residents at Arlin Falck O.E.S. Assisted Living in June 2016.

Fran was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Agnes Hull, and her brothers Howard and Carl.  She is survived by her husband Robert, sister Pauline and brother-in-law Jim Murray of Hartsville, SC, daughter Brenda Flickinger and son-in-law Jon of Rochester, MN, son Craig and daughter-in-law Rebecca of Decorah, six grandchildren: Karen, Kristen, Matthew, Paul, Rachelle and Andrew, and 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

One of Fran’s favorite hymns was “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”:

Great is They Faithfulness,

Morning by morning new mercies I see;

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided –

Great Is Thy Faithfulness, Lord unto me!

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Frances will be buried in Willow Lawn Cemetery in Plainfield, IA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Arlin Falck Assisted Living, 911 Ridgewood Drive, Decorah, IA 52101.

Cards and condolences can be sent to Robert Sullivan, 911 Ridgewood Drive, Apt. 218, Decorah, IA 52101.
