Gerald G. Oyloe, 91, of Ossian, passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian. Memorial services are Saturday, Feb. 18, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian. There is a two-hour visitation before the service at the church. Father Robert Gross will be the celebrant. Inurnment is at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church Cemetery following services. Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, is helping the family with the arrangements.
Gerald Gilbert, the son of Glen and Mabel Rosvold Oyloe, was born Oct. 15, 1925, in Ossian. He graduated from Ossian Public High School in 1944. Gerald served in the Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Wachapreague. Gerald was united in marriage with Ruth Kuennen Oct. 12, 1948, and had one son, Gordon. He operated the Ossian Grain Elevator for many years with his father and also worked for the Iowa Department of Agriculture before retiring in Phoenix, Ariz.
Gerald is survived by three granddaughters: Samantha Swink of Norman, Okla.; Carrie Oyloe of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Jennifer Oyloe of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three great grandchildren: Justin Swink, Joseph Oyloe and Kayla Oyloe; and his brother, Robert Oyloe, of Apple Valley, Minn.; and many other relatives and friends.
Gerald was preceded in death by his son, Gordon; his wife, Ruth; his brother, Miles; and his parents.
