Glenn Panos, 55, of Ormond Beach, Fla., received his angel wings July 30, 2020, peacefully, at home. There will be a memorial service for immediate family members.
Glenn Panos was born Sept. 3, 1964, in New Hampton to Alden and Marie (Snyder) Panos. He received his formal education from Turkey Valley Schools, graduating with the class of 1983.
After graduating, he attended DMACC in Ankeny, with an emphasis in culinary arts.
Shortly after, Glenn moved to Florida, working in a variety of culinary areas. He became a chef for the American Queen Company aboard the Delta Queen, Mississippi Queen and the American Queen for eight years.
After Hurricane Katrina, he began working in security, where he had a variety of experiences. He had been in house security for Silver Beach Club in Daytona Beach when he passed. He enjoyed working at Troy’s Pub in Ormond Beach during this time as well.
Glenn loved playing video games. He spent time playing against friends and family when he had the chance. He enjoyed the competitiveness and the challenge to beat any video game tossed his way. He also enjoyed the hunt for his Jack Daniels collection. His goal was to have rare items that were nearly impossible to find. He had a good time line dancing and teaching others to line dance. He enjoyed working on his Chevy pickup and his old motorcycle trike. Glenn looked forward to trying to “out-do” the neighbors each year with Christmas lights. Bonfires were fun as long as the wood was stacked a certain way to get just the right spot for roasting marshmallows and hotdogs. Glenn will be remembered for the love he shared with his family and friends – from the pranks he pulled putting coloring on the eye pieces of binoculars to having us “smell” the frosting. These were always completed with his great bear hugs, and his memorable laugh. He was one the most genuine people you could meet, and was such an amazing listener. He’d give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it. He was the biggest kid at heart who always wanted to go out with a bang.
Glenn is survived by his parents, Alden and Marie Panos of Jackson Junction; two brothers, Steve (Bev) Panos of Spillville; and Tony (Charlene) Panos of Holly Hill, Fla.; one sister, Margaret (Jay) Uhlenhake of Lawler; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Keith Panos of Little Turkey and his grandparents, Adolf and Margaret Panos and Joseph and Mary Snyder.
