Gloria Ann Strandberg, 84, of Oelwein, Iowa passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015, at her home.
She was born Aug. 24, 1931, on the family farm near Angus, Minn., the daughter of Daniel and Gerda (Kulle) Filipi. She graduated from Crookston High School in 1949.
Gloria continued her education at Minnesota State University – Moorhead and taught school in northern Minnesota.
On July 16, 1961 she was united in marriage to Paul G. Strandberg in Warren, Minn. They had three children, Sarah, David and Susan.
Gloria taught in the Oelwein School System for 20 years and enjoyed sharing her love of reading with her students. She retired in 1997.
After her family, reading was her passion and she never went anywhere without a book in her purse.
She belonged to several women’s groups in town and was an excellent cook and baker — often called on to provide treats for bake sales for her church, Zion Lutheran, and the library.
Gloria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and all will dearly miss her.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Paul; her three children, Sarah (Richard) Fromm, Decorah; David (Susan) Strandberg Duluth, Minn; and Susan (Nathan) Stacy, Rochester, Minn.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Anna, Grace and Catherine; three step grandchildren, David, Zachary and Sarah; a brother, Glenn (Patricia) Filipi of Fargo, N.D.; and nieces, nephews, cousins and step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Gerda; a sister, Donna, and a brother Donald. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date. For condolences, visit www.geilenfeldfh.com.
