Gordon John “Gordy” Gillmeister died Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, having reached the age of 59 years, 7 months, 8 days. A Celebration of Life event is Friday and Saturday, April 28 and 29, at Chimney Rock Campground in rural Bluffton. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah is serving the family. He was born Aug. 29, 1957, in Onalaska, Wis., the son of Edward Carl and DeEtte Mary (Moriarty) Gillmeister. He received his early education at the St. James Catholic School in La Crosse, Wis. Gary was united in marriage to Dawn Rouse Oct. 15, 2016, at Fort Atkinson. Gordy and Dawn made their home in Decorah. Gordy was self-employed and worked in the flooring business as a master floor technician for 30 years until 2000, when ill health caused him to retire.

Gordy is survived by his wife, Dawn of Decorah; his four children: son, Cody Gillmeister of Decorah; three daughters: Crystal (Court) Groves, Sylver (Shawn) Clark and Astyn (Steven) Rouse; his grandchildren: Landon and Macy Polansky, Devon, Kaydence and Addison Rouse, and Keenan Anderson; his mother, DeEtte Gillmeister of Holmen, Wisconsin; his sister, Peggy (Chuck) Philips; his brother, Greg (Molly) Gillmeister; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Gillmeister, Sr.; his brother, Edward Gillmeister, Jr.; and his grandparents, Margaret and James Moriarty.
