Harry Bernard Olson Jr., 79, of Decorah, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse, Wis. A celebration of life is Friday, Oct. 13, at Ruby’s, Decorah. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m.
Harry was born Sept. 10,1938, in Decorah, to Ruby Irene (Rude) and Harry B. Olson Sr. During high school Harry excelled at running, breaking school and state records. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1957, and attended the University of Iowa.
Harry, with his wife, Jo, owned and operated Rubys’ restaurant. Harry cooked and prepared many meals for the people of Decorah. He cared deeply for his family and the town of Decorah. Harry held the office of Winneshiek County treasurer, was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Jaycees and he was the first Nordic Fest president; he enjoyed serving his community. He also owned Tri-States Art and China in Walcott. He enjoyed antiquing, and he was an avid motorcycle enthusiast; he also enjoyed traveling, camping with family and going to the casino.
Survivors include his wife, Jo, of 41 years; his children: Scott (Karen) of Decorah; Kerry (Jean) of Stewartville, Minn.; and Zoanne Fullhart (Brian) of West Union. Grandchildren are Jason, Cassidy Noring (Tim), Shanda, Anthony, Abby (Buck), Tyler, Courtney and Token. Other family members are his great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews; his siste,r Phyllis, of Arizona; and his brother, Ron, of Missouri. Special people he cared deeply for are Rhonda, Christopher and Crystal.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister.
