Hattie Frana

Hattie Frana, 97, of Spillville, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 11, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with Rev. Robert Gross. Lector was Hattie Lee Frana. Offertory gift bearers were Hattie’s sons, Charles and Noel Frana. Mass servers were Cassidy and Brandon Frana. Organist was Doris Thompson. Soloist was Dan Silhacek; the St. Wenceslaus Choir also sang. Music included “Here I am Lord,” “Taste and See,” “One Bread, One Body,” “Goin’ Home” and “How Great Thou Art.” Eucharistic ministers were Mary Rausch, Phyllis Riehle and Pat Wiest. Casket bearers were Ken Frana, Brian Frana, Marty Frana, Aaron Frana, Jerome Frana and Norman Ira. Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Spillville. Balik Funeral Home in Spillville handled the arrangements.

Hattie Marie (Ira) Frana was born Oct. 17, 1917, to Frank and Anna (Kovar) Ira on the family farm near Protivin. She attended Holy Trinity School in Protivin. Hattie married Martin Frana Aug. 30, 1937, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. To this union five children were born. Together they farmed north of Conover until 1977, when they moved to Conover; and later they moved to Spillville. Hattie worked at the South Winneshiek Golf Course for 15 years. She enjoyed reading, gardening, bowling and attending her grandchildren’s activities.

Hattie is survived by three daughters: Judy Frana, Ames, Connie (Mikeal) Jones, Roseburg, Ore. and Barbara (Donald) Hunt, Aurora, Colo.; two sons, Charles (Doris) Frana, Calmar and Noel (Linda) Frana, Rochester, Minn.; four grandsons: Ken (Chris) Frana, Calmar, Brian (Jen) Frana, Marshall, Minn., Marty (fiancé) Marissa Wurzer) Frana, Rochester, Minn. and Aaron (Nicole) Frana, Phoenix, Ariz.; great-grandchildren: Hattie, Cassidy, Brandon, Kael, Taylor and Adam Frana.

Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anna (Kovar) Ira; her husband, Martin Frana, in 1999; brother, Jerome (Adella) Ira; brother- and sisters-in-law: Adolph (Otilla) Frana, Mary (Joseph) Snyder, Emma (Charlie) Petrick, Joseph (Louise) Frana JR., Antonia (Joseph) Hrdlicka, Bozena (John) Koudelka, Adeline (Clarence) Berst and Pauline (Francis) Bouska.
