Hilaria Kipp, 94, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at Wellington Place in Decorah. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, with Rev. Robert Gross officiating. Lector was Michele Birdsell and Kristi Rumph. Organist was Jeanette Dietzenbach. Soloist was Dan Silhacek. Our Lady of Seven Dolors Choir also sang at the Mass.
Hymns were “All Creatures of Our God and King,” “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman,” “Prayer of St. Francis,” “Goin Home” and “They Will Know We Are Christians by Our Love.” Offertory gift bearers were Hilaria’s granddaughters. Casket bearers were Hilaria’s grandchildren. Interment was at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Cemetery in Festina. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah.
Hilaria Clara (Hackman) Kipp was born Feb. 9, 1923, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Rausch) Hackman, on the family farm near St. Lucas. She attended St. Lukes Catholic School. Hilaria married Edwin Kipp Sept. 16, 1941, at St. Lukes Catholic Church in St. Lucas. Together they had three children: Milton, Joyce and Gene. Hilaria spent her time raising her children and helping Edwin around the farm. She liked music and even played the accordion for a while. She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren, doing crossword puzzles and reading, and she prayed the rosary every day.
Hilaria is survived by her three children: Milton (Sally) Kipp, Mt. Pleasant; Joyce Vetter, Naporville, Ill.; and Gene (Marlene) Kipp, Festina; grandchildren: Michele (Bill) Birdsell, Kevin Kipp, Jodi (Steve) Nabor, Jessica (Joel Bove) Vetter Janet Vetter, Patrick (Bernedette) Kipp, Karla (Travis) Gilson and Kristi (Ted) Rumph; great-grandchildren: Bill, Alec, Anthony, Abby, Carter, Jenna, Ann and Aiden; four great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Kipp; parents, Henry and Clara (Rausch) Hackman; three brothers: Hugo (Mildred) Hackman, Carl Hackman and Adolph Hackman; four sisters: Hilda (Carl) Brandsmeier, Rose Hackman, Leona (Clarence) Winter and Dolora (Julian) Sabelka; father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Clara (Heck) Kipp.
