Howard Oliver Holten

Howard Oliver Holten, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away March 12, 2016. Graveside services with military rites are at noon Saturday, April 2, at Decorah Lutheran Cemetery.

Howard was born Jan. 7, 1934, in rural Calmar. He is the son of Martin and Elma (Hoff) Holten. He married the love of his life, Janice Darlene (Thorson) Holten, April 22, 1956, at Calmar. Howard was a devoted family man and will be greatly missed. He enjoyed fishing and traveling with Janice. His hobbies were homing pigeons, stock car racing and football. Howard proudly served his country in the military during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Janice; seven children: Tony Holten (deceased), Julie Holten, Jaye (Greg O’Hare) Albaugh, Nicola (Vincent) Dvorsky, Lane (Tonya) Holten, Jeffery (Lisa) Holten, Shane Holten; 17 grandchildren: Dale (Amy), Troy (Gia), Brandi, Blake, Jory, Leeland, Benjamin, Shandee, Cody, Tanner, Austin, Levi, Shayla, Whitney, Jaye Lynn, Brianna and Shania; four great-grandchildren: Olivia, Luke, Tyler and Ella; a sister, Marie (David) Frana, of Decorah; and a brother, Martin Holten, of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Eldon Holten.
