Huber D. Lennon, 99, of Decorah, died Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah. A visitation is at 2 p.m. and memorial service at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at fjelstul.com.

He was born Dec. 6, 1916, at the family home at 115 ½ W. Water St. in Decorah. Christian baptism took place Feb. 23, 1917, at Decorah Lutheran Church where he remained a lifetime member. He married Corolla Marguerite Aspenson March 19, 1937. They were married 65 years.

Hubie has been described as a very private man, but his love for those special family and friends in his life ran deep. He was a farmer and his hard work ethic came through in his commitment to the conservation of land and trees. In April of this year 500 trees were underplanted to insure there will always be walnut, red oak and white oak trees on a Century Farm. He always left the land better than it was before he started farming it. He studied different soil types and was knowledgeable in so many areas regarding nature, geography and world events. He shared his love of music and reading. His religious convictions, high moral standards, honesty, remarkable memory and keen wit were strong attributes. He would be uncomfortable with all these accolades and add that he sometimes had a bad temper. His daughters will say that he is one of the most influential people in their lives and leaves a hole that cannot be filled.

Hubie is survived by his two daughters, whom he fondly called “my girls”: Judith (Richard Knutson) of Onalaska, Wis. and Ellen (Rich Hoiland) of Blaine, Minn.; eight grandchildren: Chris Ness, Paul Ness, Laurie (Mick) Parker, Kyle Knutson, Kari Knutson, Ryan Knutson, Aaron Hoiland (Nicole) and Sarah Hoiland; 12 great grandchildren: Adam, Hannah, Olivia, Emily, Caitlyn, Claudia, Amanda, Zoe, Eli, Sebastian, Ani and David.
Huber was preceded in death by his wife, Corolla, Nov. 27, 2002; daughter, Carol, July 13, 2000; son-in-law Howard Ness; parents Arthur B. and Agnes Marie (Jaastad); and siblings Lowell, Elaine Boe and Helen Jean Bentwood.

Huber, like his wife, donated his body to the University of Iowa, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Deeded Body Program, for educational and research purposes. He has been released into the arms of Jesus. Blessed be his memory. Memorials preferred to Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
