Irma L. Lockrem, daughter of Albert and Alma (Gullickson) Butz was born Jan. 6, 1919, in Hope, N.D. She lived on a farm in North Dakota until her father passed away in 1930, when she then moved back to Ridgeway with her mother. She attended Ridgeway High School, Iowa State Teachers College and Luther College and taught school in Carpenter for four years. She married Norman Lockrem July 19, 1941, and lived in Ridgeway until Norman came home from the service and they moved to Thompson, where they owned and operated Lockrem Hardware and Butler Agri-Business until Norman passed away in 1974.

Irma was very talented. She learned to play the piano at an early age and played for all the school functions in high school. She enjoyed being the organist at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson for many years. She also was an excellent seamstress and quilter and was very generous with the beautiful items she made.

Irma was quite adventurous and always was ready to have a good time. She liked to dress up on Halloween and go trick or treating, even as an adult. She loved taking trips and seeing new places. She was especially proud of her trip to Ireland where she kissed the Blarney Stone. Family was everything to Irma, she was always there when needed and loved to help family and friends. She took care of her mother at home on her farm in Thompson for many years.

Mrs. Lockrem is survived by her daughter, Kay (Marshall) Crandall of Joliet, Ill.; son, Odean (Kathy) Lockrem of Doliver; three grandchildren: Lisa DuBeau, Ryan (Holly) Lockrem and Courtney (Bridget) Crandall; one step-grandson, Chuck Marlin; seven great-grandchildren and her good friend, Grace Branstad.
