James Paul Ahles, age 76 of Postville, passed away Nov. 12. 2021 at his home, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on Nov. 15, 1944 to Paul and Juliet (Anderson) Ahles in Jesup. He graduated from Columbus High School in Waterloo; and he moved from Waterloo in 1972.On Sept. 18, 1976 he married Judith Vongroven in Decorah.
Jim worked at Rath Meat Packing in the boning department, he had also worked at the John Deere Foundry, and had done odd jobs with his father; For 28 years, he had worked in the security department of Luther College, working his way up to director of the department. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood working, and many other hands-on activities, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife Judy; his sons Kyle (Jennifer) of Waterloo and Chris (Stephanie) of New Albin; and his daughter Katie (Ben) Leusink of Sioux Center; three grandchildren Robert Ahles, Seth and Dominick Leusink. In addition to his parents Paul and Juliet, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law Norman and Julia Vongroven, seven grandchildren, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be Nov. 17. at 11 a.m. at Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pastor William Odermann will officiate. Friends may call Wednesday at the church from 9 to 11 a.m. Roble Funeral Home of Spring Grove is assisting the family with arrangements.
