James A. Schreffler, age 79, of Morristown, Minn., and formerly of Decorah, died Saturday, July 22, 2023, at his home.
Memorial services will be held at Peace United Methodist Church, Morristown, Minn., on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2023, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Elden Eklund, officiating.
A memorial visitation will be held at Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, Minn., on Monday, July 31, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m. and also at the church for one hour prior to the service on Aug. 1.

I met Jim in 1976, when I was the new sports editor at Decorah Newspapers and he was the girls’ basketball coach at Decorah High School. We had a great working relationship during the three years I worked on the newspaper. I saw Jim again in 2005, when he was living in Minnesota and had been coaching girls’ basketball at Farmington High School. We met for dinner and enjoyed a long conversation to catch up on the last 26 years. That would be the last time I saw Jim. I visited Decorah last month, and as I drove around the town and thought of the many people I got to know while I was there, Jim was definitely one of them. To Jim’s family, please accept my heartfelt condolences.
