JAMES SOUKUP, 93 of Decorah, died Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at his son’s home, rural Waukon. Mass of Christian Burial is at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 30, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with Rev. Donald Hertges presiding. Burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue in Decorah and also after 9:30 a.m. at the church Monday morning. There is a rosary at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Schluter-Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Winneshiek County, or St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in James’ name. Survivors include three children: Diane (Peter) Kriener, Ft. Atkinson; Karen (Darrel) North, Krum, Texas; and Todd (Jan) Soukup, Waukon; nine grandchildren: Deb (Kerri) Langreck, St. Lucas; Arlen (Annette) Kriener, Ft. Atkinson; Jeremy (Samantha) Kriener, Ft. Atkinson; Denise (Kurt) Zirtzman, Ryan; Sara (fiancé Jake Shaw) Kriener, Nora Springs; Lisa (Steve) Nelson, West Branch; Jesse (fiance Emily Hobbs) Soukup, West Branch; Daren (Amber) North, The Colony, Texas; and Shonda (Scott) Walthall, Haltom City, Texas; granddaughter-in-law, Kaiya Kriener, Ft. Atkinson; 12 great-grandsons; four sisters-in-law: Marcella Soukup, Calmar; Doris Andera, Ft. Atkinson; Darlene Andera, Spillville; and Janet Andera, Cresco; and numerous nieces and nephews.
