Jane Bowen Houck, age 66, of Mabel, Minn., died on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020 at her son, Ryan’s home in Dyersville, with hospice serving the family.

She was born Dec. 8, 1953, in Richland Center, Wis., to Bowen and Anita (Knause) Houck, the oldest of five children. Jane was a musician and artist in her childhood, and she developed a wonderful sense of humor that remained throughout her life. She had a fun childhood and was the leader of the Rat Fink Club in her neighborhood, where forts were built, and friendships forged. Jane was a lifelong Democrat and she lived long enough to see her son, Ryan run for the Iowa State House and Donald Trump soundly defeated.

She graduated from Richland Center High School in 1972 and studied at UW-Center Richland and UW-LaCrosse. She married James P. Quinn on Nov. 6, 1976 and they moved to Madison and opened JP’s Bar and Grill. Her son, Ryan, was born in 1977 and her son, Andrew, followed in 1982. The family lived in Madison, Onalaska and Richland Center while the boys were growing up. Jane moved to Mabel, MN with her friend, Susan Doll, and worked at Opportunity Homes for many years until her recent retirement.

Jane is survived by her sons, Ryan (Laurie) Quinn, and their children, Brendon, Shelby, and Alex of Dyersville, and Andrew Quinn, and his children, Mason, Tegan, and Kylie, of Harmony, Minn. She also is survived by her siblings: Susan Houck (Berlye Middleton), and children, Courtney (Derrick) and Christopher; Julia Houck (Kathy King), and daughter Caitlin; John (Lesley) Houck, and sons, Kevin (Lexie), and Nick; and Thomas (Kris) Houck, and children Christian and Kate. She is also survived by an uncle, Kent (Marilyn) Houck and cousins, Mathew Lawrence and Sarah Fowell.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 2011, her parents and grandparents, and her cousin, Karen Fowell.

A private family memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020 at the Lulloff Peterson Houck Funeral Home in Dodgeville, Wis. Due to the pandemic, the service will be virtual as well and friends may contact the funeral home at lphfh@mhtc.net for further information. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Dubuque.
