Janeen Kay Hedke, 69, passed away Tuesday evening, May 12, 2020, at the Great Plains Health Hospital in North Platte, Neb. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon, May 16, at the Church of God in Trenton, Neb., with Pastor Johnny Walker officiating. Interment followed services in the Trenton Cemetery, Trenton, Neb.Viewing was Saturday morning, prior to services, beginning at 10 a.m. at the church in Trenton. A memorial has been established to McCook Al-Anon in Janeen’s memory. Friends may send words of comfort to the family at herrmannfh.com. She was born Aug. 31, 1950, in Locust, to Dale and Norma (Hovey) Barth. Janeen went on to live her early adult life in Decorah, where she raised her children, John and Jackie.
Janeen married Charles F. Hedke Dec. 27, 1981, in Decorah. They would later move to Atwood, Kan., where they owned a business for many years while eventually settling in Trenton, Neb.
Janeen obtained a Bachelor of Science in nursing May 5, 1995, from the University Nebraska. As a registered nurse, Janeen worked at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Ariz., the Community Hospital of McCook, Neb., and the Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman, Neb.
Janeen loved attending Huskers football games with her husband, baking with her grandchildren, shopping, pampering her dogs, riding her horse. She cherished her time spent with her family friends and looked forward to their phone calls when apart.
Janeen is survived by her loving husband, Chuck Hedke; mother, Norma Schrandt; stepmother, Audrey Barth; two brothers, David (Cathey) Barth, Daniel (Tammy) Barth; two children John (Lori) McKernan, Jacquelyn (Robert) Sanford; two stepchildren, Michael (Nancy) Hedke, Brenda (Forrest) Sieger; seven grandchildren: Jazmin, David, Alarie, Jaylen, Amanda, Alivia and MacKenzie; and two great grandchildren, Amari and Isaac.
Janeen was preceded in death by her father, Dale Barth; stepfather, William Schrandt; infant grandson, Drew.
