Janet Magee Allen

Janet Magee Allen, age 92, formerly of Decorah, died peacefully in her sleep on the afternoon of Feb. 4, 2022 in Avon, New York surrounded by family.

Janet (Magee) was born April 20, 1929 in Corning, New York. She was the daughter of Edgar E. “Ned” and Grace Grove “Dee” Magee. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Richard E. “Dick” Allen. Janet and Dick raised six daughters in Corning, New York and then retired to Iowa in 1991. In 2018, after the death of her husband, Janet moved back East to St. John’s Meadows in Rochester, NY. Janet was very active in her communities. In Decorah, she was a member of PEO, Northern Lights, and First United Methodist Church. In Corning, she was active with Meals on Wheels, Eastern Star, and was a member of the Congregational Church UCC. She made many friends everywhere she went.

Janet is survived by her six daughters: Mary (Derek) Woollatt of Thurston, NY; Margaret “Peggy” (David) Lewis of Pleasant Hill, CA; Jane (Orlando Schwartz) Allen, of Cedar Falls, IA; Dorothy “Dot” McCandless of Avon, NY; Rebecca (David) Sharman of Avon, NY; and Nancy (James) Ulring of Decorah, IA; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Meadows, February 12, 2022 in Rochester, NY.

Janet was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She always had a warm smile, hugs, and great book recommendations for anyone.
