Jay Espe, age 56, of Decorah, died on Monday, July 18, 2022, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah.
Celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at the Glenwood Lutheran Church, with Rev. Jennifer Edinger presiding.
Jay Espe was born June 25, 1966, to Roger and LeAnn Espe in Decorah. Jay grew up on the family farm outside of Decorah. Shortly after graduating from Decorah High School in 1986, Jay joined the Navy and served from 1986 -1990. He was stationed on the USS Independence in San Diego, Calif., serving in Desert Storm and Panama conflict. He enjoyed telling stories about his Port stops.Jay returned to the Decorah in 1997, settled on an acreage outside of Frankville, and enjoyed working second shift at Gemini for 25 years. Jay loved the outdoors, hunting deer, fishing, kayaking, and especially growing garlic. Jay spent many hours trout fishing and enjoyed making his own hair lures. He was always willing to share his tips and techniques with all interested anglers. Jay was always proud of his gardening and freely shared the extra produce with friends and family. Jay always had a smile on his face and lived life to the fullest.
Jay is proceeded in death by his father, Roger E. Espe. Remaining family: son Roger J-Scott Espe, Austin, TX; Mother LeAnn Espe, Ackley, IA; Brother Kurt and Lisa (niece Tiffany) Espe; Sister Machele (Nephews Ray and Joe) Bollman; and Significant other Cindy Rosel and her daughter Logan.
