JC Tangen, age 87, died Wednesday, March 2 at Mountain Vista Hospital, Mesa, Ariz., from heart condition.
He was born in Decorah, Iowa to Cara (Landmayer) Tangen and Joseph Tangen. He graduated from Decorah High School and entered the USA Army, serving for two years. While serving during the Korean War he drove a launcher carrying the Honest John rocket in Germany and Italy.After proudly serving his country he attended and graduated from Mankato Minnesota Vocational-Technical School completing training in automotive mechanics. He was employed at Marlin’s Chevrolet, Truman, Minn. On Sept. 27, 1958, he married his best friend, Gwen Nash, and they were blessed with a son Arthur (wife, Linda); and daughter, June (husband Wyn Kelley) and two granddaughters Karen and Kristen Kelley.
In 1961 JC was employed at Bissonnette Chevrolet in Charles City, Iowa. The move brought many years of happiness working and raising a family in the country. He remained employed for the Chevrolet dealership in Charles City working as Service Manager until retiring in 1996. He and Gwen chose Queen Valley, Ariz., for their home after retirement where JC loved the land of sunshine. He was a member of Queen Valley Lutheran Chapel, board member of Queen Valley Sewer Board and donated many hours to citizens on Patrol (COP) in Pinal county. He was always proud to serve where needed, was a true patriot and believed in standing for the Flag and Kneeling for the Cross. His favorite hobby was square and round dancing and making new friends as they traveled to many areas for dancing.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen; son Art; daughter June; two granddaughters and one sister Iona Farley. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Iola Erickson and two brothers-in-laws, Bill Farley and Don Nash.He will be laid to rest at Arizona National Memorial Cemetery March 17,2022.
A Celebration of Life will be at Queen Valley, Arizona, Rec. Hall, March 18, 2022; from 2 to 4 p.m. The family appreciates all of your kind thoughts and prayers. Memorials may be made to Queen Valley Fire Auxiliary or Queen Valley Lutheran Chapel.
