Jerald Ray Quandahl, 70, of Corinth, Texas, went to be with the Lord Friday, July 28, 2017. A funeral service was held Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the Southmont Baptist Church, with Brian Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.

Jerry was born March 5, 1947, in Decorah, to Clyde L. Quandahl and Edna Frances Knoke Quandahl. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1965 and Mankato State University in 1970. Jerry proudly served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1993. He was deployed on the USS Enterprise to the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War. In 1974 he earned his rating on the P-3 as a patrol plane commander, and was certified in special weapons and anti-submarine warfare. He flew the Trans Pacific, the Azore Islands, Spain and other places, eventually retiring from the Navy as a commander. Jerry flew in the commercial sector for Braniff Airlines, Orion Airlines and United Parcel Service. He flew the DC-8, 727 and 757-767, but the DC-8 was his favorite. Flying jets was definitely Jerry’s passion! Jerry married Rebecca Ann Autrey June 9, 1990. They were soul mates and best friends. They traveled the world together before starting a family and built many amazing memories. Then, the good times continued with their children and grandchildren. Jerry loved his children Kirsten, Jacob and Jordan unconditionally. They brought joy and blessings to his life. Then his grandchildren Bella, Aria, and Anderson were born and he had a new sparkle in his eye. Jerry was fortunate to be blessed with amazing family and friends and when he became ill with Huntington’s Disease, three cancers, and two leukemias, his friends and family stayed by his side, supporting, encouraging, loving and praying for him. Jerry was a Christian, but as his illnesses progressed his faith grew, he had hope and faith that God would provide strength, grace and whatever he and his family needed to get through the struggles. On several occasions he said he would not trade his illnesses to go back to the person he was before them, because he had developed such a close relationship with the Lord and he loved his new life. We are grateful to the many people who prayed for us and helped us through the battle. Jerry’s favorite passage is Ephesians 6: 13-18, which talks about putting on the full armor of God. He fought a good battle and finished the fight! Now he is with his Father in Heaven, rejoicing and enjoying a healthy body! Awesome!

Jerald is survived by his wife, Becky Quandahl, of Corinth; daughters, Kirsten Kula and husband Ken of Lantana and Jordan Quandahl of Corinth; son Jacob Quandahl of Corinth; brother Mark Quandahl and wife Marilyn of Decorah; nephew, Jesse Quandahl and wife Heather and family of Decorah; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Jerry is preceded in death by his father, Clyde L. Quandahl; mother, Edna Frances Knoke Quandahl; nephew, Tom Quandahl; and niece, Bethany Lauren Davis.

The family has requested that memorials be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA Texas Affiliate) P.O. Box 270261, Flower Mound, TX. 75027.
