Jerome Kriener, age 81, of Spillville, died Thursday, March 10, 2022 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville with Rev. Robert Gross presiding, burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m., on Friday, March 18, 2022 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville and also after 10 a.m. at the church on Saturday morning. The Schluter-Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Jerome William Kriener was born on Feb. 4, 1941, the son of Peter and Mary (Kuennen) Kriener on the family farm in rural St. Lucas, IA. He attended St. Luke’s Catholic Church School through the 9th grade and then began farming alongside his parents on the family farm. Jerome met Madonna Hackman while at a dance in Little Turkey, and they later married on his 20th birthday, Feb. 4, 1961 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. Together they had five children. Jerome loved his lifelong career of farming. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, socializing, and attending his children and grandchildren’s events.
Jerome is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Madonnai; five children: Rose (Kelly) Wander, Elgin, IA; Paul Kriener, Fort Atkinson, IA; Sharon (Duane) Elsbernd, Calmar, IA; Tom (Laurie) Kriener, Fort Atkinson, IA; and Janice (Dale) McIntosh, Mexico, MO; 13 grandchildren: Joshua (Claire) Wander, Jessica (Jonathon) Baker, Christopher (Mariah) Wander, Luke Elsbernd, Dustin (Samantha Serd) Elsbernd, Erica (Austin McElroy) Elsbernd, Jenna Elsbernd; Brooke (Dalton Dettbarn) Kriener, Josie, Ashley, Morgan Kriener; Brennan and Carter McIntosh; three great grandchildren: Harrison, Paige, and Addison Wander; a sister: Anita Busta; rother: Conrad (Kathleen) Kriener; sisters-in-law: Anastasia, Rosemary, and Diane Kriener; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Betty (Leon) Benjegerdes, Mason City, IA; Ron (Rosemary) Hackman, Cedar Rapids, IA; Marv (Gail) Tester, Salt Lake City, UT; Mel (Mary Lou) Hackman, Fort Atkinson, IA; Judy (Duane) Crock, Cedar Rapids, IA; Mary (Erich) Weiss, Decorah, IA; Jim (Chris) Hackman, Cresco, IA; JoAnn (Pat) Costigan, Lawler, IA; John (Sue) Hackman, Fort Atkinson, IA; Dave (Sharon) Hackman, Fort Atkinson, IA; Rick (Donna) Hackman, Fort Atkinson, IA; Jan Hron, Decorah, IA.
