Joann Arlene (Wireman) Greenley, 73, of New Hampton, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton with interment in Garden of Memories, Waterloo. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the service at the funeral home. Online condolences for Joann’s family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.com.
Joann Arlene (Wireman) Greenley was born Feb. 28, 1945, in Black Hawk County, the daughter of Francis and Beth (Treloar) Wireman. She received her education in Janesville. She married the love of her life, Gary Duane Greenley, Nov. 23, 1962, in Janesville. To this union one daughter and three sons were born; Sheila, John, James and Matthew. Joann and Gary lost their son Matthew shortly after birth from SIDS; their daughter, Sheila; in an auto accident; and later, Sheila’s son, Joshua, to a drowning accident. Their years together were marked with tragedy, but also a deep and abiding love for each other.
Joann and Gary made their home in Searsboro for most of their married life. The couple loved going for drives around the countryside looking for wildlife and enjoying the scenery. She loved arts and crafts and made many paintings. She enjoyed movies and listening to her vinyl records on the turntable. As a grandmother, she loved to spend time with her granddaughters, especially coloring with them.
Joann is survived by her two sons, John (Sandra) Greenley of Janesville and James Greenley of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Madison and Kalen of Janesville; two brothers, Rich Wireman of Janesville and Ed (Anna) Wireman of Waterloo; one sister, Betty Pond of Vinton; two sisters-in-law, Laura Wireman of New Hampton and Florence Wireman of Hawkeye; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gary, March 10, 2013; her son, Matthew; her daughter, Sheila; her grandson, Joshua; one sister; Marie Pyle; two brothers, Bob Wireman and David Wireman; one sister-in-law, Shiela Wireman.
