Judy Lou Hoyt, 83, of Hawkeye, went home to be with the angels on Dec. 15 at Hillcrest Living, Sumner, surrounded by love.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, with Rev. Ron Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Hawkeye Cemetery. Visitation will precede services at the church on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. Becker & Son Funeral Home in Hawkeye is assisting Judy’s family. She was born March 2, 1940, in Stanley, Iowa, the daughter of William and Goldie (Menuey) Suhr. She was joined in holy matrimony to James “Jim” Hoyt on Oct. 20, 1958, at the Hawkeye Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye. From this union, four children were born, five grandchildren, and in April a total of six great-grandchildren. Judy enjoyed spending time with her family, playing card games, and crafting.

Judy graduated from West Union High School, while there she loved playing basketball and being captain of the team. She was a loving homemaker who made the daily work of farming an enjoyable family affair. She enjoyed going dancing with Jim and the two enjoyed going fishing with their grandchildren. She loved playing card games with family and friends and had a passion for gardening. She always asked Jim to fill the bird feeders she could see out the kitchen window because as her sister Goldie put it “she loved her red birds.”

She is survived by: her husband, James, of 65 years; a daughter, JoDee (Tom) Till of Dyersville; sons James “Jamie” of Denver, CO, & Jayce “JC” (Amy) of Kansas City, MO; 5 grandchildren, Jolynn (Alex), Katelynn, Jaquline, Nathaniel, & Brianna; and 5 great grandchildren, Finnick, Duncan, Elon, twins Lyle and Evanna, and another due in April; three brothers, Henry Suhr, Aelvin (Julie) Suhr, Melvin (Holly) Suhr; four sisters, Goldie Platte, Anna Ungerer, Lois (Jake) Kocher, Marlene (Al) Bradley; brother-in-law Ivan Hoyt; sisters-in-law, Sandy Suhr and Faye Hanson (Reggie); and many nieces & nephews.

Preceded in death by: beloved daughter Jacolyn, son-in-law Richard, and their unborn child; five brothers, Jerry her twin, William Jr., Marvin, Robert, Louie; brothers-in-law Bill Smith, Kermit Knutson, Jerry Hanson, Howard Platte, and Dale Ungerer; sisters-in-law, Mary Smith, Bonnie Smith, Peggy Suhr, Betty Suhr, Janis Suhr, Diane Suhr, and Carol Hoyt.
