Kathleen “Kathy” Bohr, 76, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, at her home in Decorah. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, with Rev. Donald Hertges officiating. Organist was Mary Beth Bouska. Cantors were Cindy Schissel and Don DiLaura. Hymns were “Here I am, Lord,” “We Remember,” “On Eagles Wings,” “Go Rest High on That Mountain” and “How Great Thou Art.” Mass servers were from St. Benedict School. Lector was Ashley Miller. Offertory gift bearers were Kathy’s children: Jason, Jeremy and Jennifer. Eucharistic ministers were Lori Bohr, Janet Bohr and Jeanne Lechtenberg. Casket bearers were Andrew Peterson, Berndt Bohr, Baylor Bohr, Dustin Miller, Randy Bohr, Al Bohr and Jack Kipp. Honorary casket bearers were Ashley Miller, Kaitlyn Bohr, Hailey Bohr and Monica Malila. Interment was at St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery, Decorah. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Decorah.
Kathleen Rose (Schissel) Bohr was born July 20, 1942, the daughter of Bertram and Henrietta (Riehle) Schissel near Waucoma. Kathy was a graduate of New Hampton High School in 1960. She worked at United Telephone Company in New Hampton before marrying Luke Bohr Jan. 11, 1969, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Hampton. Together they had three children: Jennifer, Jeremy and Jason. Kathy stayed home and raised their children until 1986. She then began working at Walmart in Decorah, where she worked for 24 years before retiring in June of 2010. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah. Kathy loved crocheting, reading, watching old movies and spending time with her family, and was a very selfless person, always putting others before herself.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Luke; children: Jennifer (Dennis Dotzler) Peterson, Spillville; Jeremy (Denise) Bohr, Decorah; and Jason (Tami) Bohr, Burr Oak; grandchildren: Ashley (Dustin) Miller and Andrew (Monica) Peterson, Kaitlyn and Hailey Bohr, Berndt and Baylor Bohr; brother, Tony (Lucy) Schissel, Guttenburg; sisters: Betty Weilacker, Carlsbad, Calif.; Mary Petersen, Allen, Texas; Madonna O’Connell, Mason City; sisters-in-law: Janet Bohr, New Vienna, Marilyn Bohr, Ossian and Annette (Karl) Wiltgen, Ossian; brothers-in-law: John (Sheila) Bohr, Waterloo; Leroy (Shirley) Bohr, Ossian; and Lester (Shirley) Hageman, Calmar; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Bertram and Henrietta (Riehle) Schissel; brothers, Loras Schissel and Willis (Ivanelle) Schissel; sisters:, Norma (Bob) Krueger and Joan (Charlie) Kipp; brother-in-law, Keith O’Connell; father and mother-in-law, John and Anna (Heying) Bohr; brothers-in-law: Art (Frances and his second wife, Janis) Bohr, Carl Bohr, Mark (Lorena) Bohr and Kenneth Bohr; sisters-in-law: Clarita Bohr, Luella Bohr, Sr. Norma Jean Bohr and Lois Hageman.
