Keith Heying

Keith Joseph Heying, 62, of Ossian, passed away Monday, Nov. 27, 2023, at WinnMed in Decorah.

He was born April 2, 1961, to Hugo John and Lucille (Geling) Heying in Decorah, Iowa. Keith graduated from South Winneshiek High School in Calmar.

In 1994, Keith was united in marriage with Judy Thornton. Two sons were born to this union. They were later divorced. Throughout the years Keith had worked for Reilly Construction, farmed the home farm near Ossian, was a welder for twenty years for Featherlite in Cresco, Iowa and drove trucks for Bruening for five years. Keith enjoyed listening to music, doing yard work and anything to do with taking a ride through the countryside in one of his cars.

Surviving Keith are his two sons, Cody (Rachel) Heying of Waterloo, and Chase Heying of Ossian; his siblings, Marlene (Jim) Messmer of Rochester, Minn., Kevin Heying of Mesa, Ariz., Cynthia (Stanley) Schaaf of Villisca, Elaina (Steve) Maracek of Bradenton, Fla., Phil Heying of Bedford, and Glenda Heying of Festina; and several nieces and nephews.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Lucille Heying; sister, Mary Lou Heying in 1968; and brother, Christopher Heying in 1983.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Festina Community Center in Festina.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery in Ossian.

Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Ossian is assisting the family with arrangements.
