Kenneth “Jr.” Bolson Jr. passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at his home, with his daughters, in Cresco, after a courageous battle with cancer. His family received friends at the Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, March 29. A private service was held Saturday.
Jr. was born Sept. 29, 1951, the son of Kenneth Mahlon and Grace Arlene (Vine) Bolson in Decorah. He was the second born of eight children. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1969. Following graduation, he worked for Decorah Parks and Recreation and also for the family painting business, SB Bolson & Sons for many years. He was blessed with four daughters.
Jr. was known for being a great fisherman and enjoyed participating in many fishing tournaments over the years. In his later years, Jr really enjoyed metal detecting and spending time with his buddies. He also was a long-time active member of the Cresco Wildlife Club. But above all his greatest pride and joy in life were his daughters and grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters: Rachel (Joe) Allen of California, Nicole (Daniel) Baarts of California, Bethany (Dylan) Schrage of Vinton and Janel (Kyle) Ollendieck of Cresco; his grandchildren: Justin and Benjamin Allen, Hollen Baarts, Nolan and Beckett Schrage, and Shade Ollendieck; sisters: Linda Steffes of Zumbrota, Minn., Julie (Terry) Scheidel of Decorah, Pam Huffman of Decorah and Jane (Terry) Elsbernd of Decorah; brothers, Wayne (Sue) Bolson of Cresco and Scott (Jill) Bolson of Decorah; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
