Lance A. Maly died peacefully at home Jan. 2, 2017, after a heroic year-long battle with brain cancer. Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Church of St. Bartholomew, 630 E. Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata. Visitation is one hour before Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Brain Tumor Association.

Lance was born Oct. 21, 1966, in Des Moines. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1985, and attended the University of Iowa, where he was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Lance graduated from Iowa in 1989, with degrees in economics and communications. He had a long career in banking and finance, before pursuing his dream of owning and successfully operating his own company. Lance was admired for his strong Catholic faith, his devotion to his family and his kind and generous spirit. Lance will be remembered for his love of all sports, but especially running and golfing. A lifelong Cubs fan, he was thrilled that the Cubs won the 2016 World Series. Lance was a well-rounded person, who loved to read, cook and travel and there wasn’t a thing around the house that he couldn’t fix.

Lance is survived by his devoted wife of 23 years, Maureen; his beloved children, Caitlin and Luke; his mother, Mary Jane Maly, of Decorah; his sister, Michelle Hanson (Carter), of Valparaiso, Ind. and her children, Sophie and Elsa Hanson; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Philip and his grandparents: Claire and Harriet Duggan, of Waukon; and Alice and Julius Maly, of Cedar Rapids.
