Larry Rothmeyer, 80, of Festina, died Friday, March 8, 2019, at his home near Festina. Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina, with Rev. Robert Gross officiating. Organist is Jeanette Dietzenbach. Our Lady of Seven Dolors Choir will sing “Here I am, Lord,” “You Are Mine,” “I Have Loved You,” Softly and Tenderly” and “How Great Thou Art.” Lector is Pat Tekippe. Offertory gift bearers are Larry’s grandchildren. Casket bearers are Larry’s children and grandchildren. Interment is at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Cemetery, Festina. Arrangements are being handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Decorah.
Lawrence Anthony Rothmeyer was born Sept. 10, 1938, the son of Herbert and Rose (Gerleman) Rothmeyer near Calmar. Larry attended St. Aloysius Catholic School until he was 12 years old and his family moved to his grandpar-ents’ farm near Festina. He then attended St. Mary’s grade school through 10th grade. Larry transferred to Calmar High School so he could play football and graduated in 1956. After graduating, Larry joined the Army where he served from 1957-1959. He returned home and worked for area farmers as well as Bucheit produce for a short time. He then went to work at Collins Radio from the fall of 1959 until 1966. Larry’s father passed away in 1965. Larry returned home to farm with his mother and younger brother in 1966. He lived on the family farm for 59 years. Larry sold his cows in 1997 and went to work at Camcar in Decorah for 10 years before retiring. He loved sports and never missed his kids’ ballgames. He had a very good sense of humor and was a very supportive and loyal father and husband. Larry enjoyed springtime and doing field work but his greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Larry is survived by his wife, Sandy, of Festina; children: Scott (Trudie) Rothmeyer, Denver; Pat Rothmeyer, Festi-na; Mary (Matt) O’Kones, West Union; and Mark Rothmeyer, Denver; grandchildren: Keaton and Kenna Rothmeyer; Jordan, Dillon and Brandon O’Kones; Aaliyah, Avery and Ainsley Rothmeyer; brothers, Linus Rothmeyer, Calmar and Lester (Elizabeth) Rothmeyer, Commerce City, Colo.; sisters, Ruth Huber, Boscobel, Wis. and Rosetta (Gerald) Schmitt, St. Lucas; sisters-in-law, Sally (Milton) Kipp, Mt. Pleasant and Jean Zweibahmer, Ossian; brother-in-law, Kenny Zweibahmer, Ft. Atkinson; along with many nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Rose (Gerleman) Rothmeyer; father and mother-in-law, The-odore and Lillie (Svendsen) Zweibahmer; sister-in-law, Elsie Rothmeyer; brother-in-law, Karl Zweibahmer.
