Larry Whittle, 74, of rural Decorah, died Thursday, March 17, 2022, at his home.
Memorial services will be held Monday, May 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at St. Benedict’s Cemetery in Decorah. Friends may greet the family from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 2:30 p.m. scripture service.
Lawrence Paul Whittle was born Sept. 17, 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Virgil and Claire (Heatley) Whittle. He graduated from St. George High School in Lansing in 1965 and then worked on the family farm and bought his first pickup. Larry started hauling cattle to area sales barns, attending local livestock auctions, and was a livestock buyer for many years; he loved taking care of his cattle. On May 7, 1983, he married Beverly Stock at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. They bought a farm near Freeport, where they farmed for many years. He and Bev enjoyed traveling to New York, the national parks out West, and taking several trips to Las Vegas. He loved spending time with his family and never missed a family event or holiday.
Survivors include his step-children: Lea Ann VanVliet of Decorah, Eric VanVliet of Decorah, and Suzanne (Ron) Rowe of Whitehall, Mont.; two brothers: Gary (Carol) Whittle of Harpers Ferry and Alan (Carmen) Whittle of Decorah; two sisters: Eileen (John) Curtin and Bonnie (Ray) Wagner, both of Lansing; and a brother-in-law Roger (Linda Manning) Stock of Waukon.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Beverly, who died in 2021.
Honorary casketbearers are Dani Bahr, Bruce Belter, Craig Kurtenbach, George Leuenberger, Mike Link, Jim Murray, Adam Quandahl, Steve Walsky, Ronnie White, and Monte Wilder.
