Lester C. Orr, 85, of Waukon, passed away Monday, May 22, 2017, at the Winneshiek Medical Center following a lengthy illness. A time of visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, at the Gay and Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City. Private graveside services are at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Lester Charles Orr was born Aug. 26, 1931, in Grinnell; son of Charles W. and Alice (Ohl) Orr. Lester graduated from West Liberty High School and served an enlistment in the Army Reserves. He was united in marriage to Jean Walters July 10, 1953, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Lester spent most of his working career at Proctor and Gamble in Iowa City; and after retirement he and Jean moved to Waukon. They traveled extensively throughout their lives, and he enjoyed time trout fishing, tree farming and was a talented wood and metal craftsman and a long-time participant and supporter of Future Farmers of America.
His family includes his wife, Jean; daughter, Jan Welsh (Bob) of Cedar, Minn.; sons, Steve Orr (Shirley) of Story City and Carl Orr (Merry Jo) of Shakopee, Minn.; sisters, Anna Kria King of Los Angeles, Calif. and Mary Post of Tualatin, Ore. and three grandchildren: Tory Welsh, Jack Orr and Mitch Orr.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
