Linda Sue Schissel, 69, of Ossian, Iowa died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021 at Good Samaritan Society in West Union.
Linda Sue was born Feb. 15, 1952 to Paul and Cleo Mae (Hosper) Gerlich in Decorah, Iowa. She graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1970 and attended Area One Cosmetology College in 1971.
Linda was united in marriage to Tom Schissel on Nov. 27, 1971 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Five children were born to this union. Linda was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and Rosary Society, was a 4-H leader for several years and was on the Winneshiek County Pork Producer Board. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to dinner with the ladies, baking cookies, tending to her flowers, doing jigsaw puzzles, sewing and quilting. Linda loved to visit with friends.
Surviving Linda are her husband, Tom Schissel; children, Raymond Schissel of Ossian, Iowa, Jennifer Schissel of Marion, Iowa, Christopher Schissel of Ossian, Iowa, Grant (Shannon) Schissel of West Union, Iowa and Samantha (Travis) Greene of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three grandchildren, Noah Schissel, Jameson Schissel and Everly Greene; brother, Keith (Stephanie) Gerlich of Calmar, Iowa; three sisters, Sharon (Terry) Balk of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Marilyn Pavelka of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Joyce (Randy) Nesvik of Ossian, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Krusemark and Connie Schissel.
Preceding Linda in death were her parents, Paul and Cleo Mae Gerlich; and two brothers, Michael Gerlich in infancy and Vincent Gerlich.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm with a 6 p.m. Rosary on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian. There will also be a one hour visitation before Mass at the church on Friday.Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2021 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, with Rev. Robert Gross as the celebrant.Burial will follow in the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery in Ossian. Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Ossian is assisting the family with arrangements.
