Loren T. “Bud” Amundson, 88, of Decorah, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 24, 2015, at the Patty Elwood Center in Cresco. Memorial services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Decorah Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Sorenson and Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating. Organist is Kathy Tollefsrud. Special music is “On Eagle’s Wings” by Randy Snell and Emily Block, with accompanist Susan Snell and “His Eye is on the Sparrow” by Randy Snell and Ben Snell, with Ben Snell on guitar. Congregational hymns are “How Great Thou Art” and “Just As I Am.” Inurnment is in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah. Visitation begins Saturday at 1 p.m., one hour before the service, at Decorah Lutheran Church. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at fjelstul.com.
Loren Truvern “Bud” Amundson was born Feb. 12, 1927, at home in rural Decorah, to Gilbert and Idella (Twenge) Amundson. The family moved to a farm near Prosper, Minn. Bud attended country school at the Prosper School and then at the Burr Oak country school. He graduated from Canton High School in with the class of 1946. Bud was united in marriage to Joan Pearson Aug. 20, 1949, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Decorah. Bud spent all of his working years farming in the Burr Oak area. He was always very proud of his land and his machinery. Bud and Joan moved into Decorah in 1994. Bud and Joan were longtime members of Mabel First Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. He was a member of the Masons, Scottish Rite,Osman Shrine, the Elks Club, and he served on the Phelps Cemetery board. Most recently they have been members of Decorah Lutheran Church.
Bud is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joan of Decorah; and eight nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons; four sisters; and one nephew.
