Madonna Martin

Madonna Martin, 82, of Decorah, died peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 21, at her home in Decorah.

Madonna Ruth (Cassel) Martin was born April 17, 1935, in Winneshiek County, the daughter of Samuel and Marie (Johnson) Cassel. She was confirmed at the Bluffton Lutheran Church. She graduated from Decorah High School in 1953.

Madonna attended Kansas City Community College in Kansas, where she earned a degree in business management. She worked as an insurance agent for Armed Forces Insurance Company for many years. She later moved back to Bluffton and 18 years ago moved into Decorah, where she became a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. Madonna enjoyed playing bridge at the senior center in Decorah. She truly loved her dogs. Two of her Pomeranians, Daisy and Poppy, will be placed along with Madonna at the Burr Oak Cemetery. Teddy, her Shih-tzu mix dog found a forever home with a loving family.

It was Madonna’s wish to have no funeral services.

Madonna is survived by her half-sister, Delenor Marie (Cassel) Pohl, West Salem, Wis.

Madonna was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Marie; sister, Marie Cassel; half-brother, Merlin Cassel; half-sister, Betty Jean Cassel.
