Marcella Kovarik, 89, of Spillville died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, Minn. Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 7, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with Father Robert Gross officiating. Organist is Doris Thompson. Soloist is Dan Silhacek. St. Wenceslaus Choir also will sing. Hymns are “Be Not Afraid,” “Jesu, Jesu,” “Knebesum” “Goin’ Home” and “How Great Thou Art.” Lector is Chad Kuboushek. Offertory gift bearers areTom and Evelyn Kovarik.Interment is at a later date in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Spillville. Arrangements are being handled by Balik Funeral Home, Spillville.
Marcella Marie (Shimek) Kovarik was born March 6, 1926, to Edward and Mary (Bily) Shimek on the farm near Spillville. She attended St. Wenceslaus School and later obtained her GED. Marcella worked at the Haug Store and at the Bank in Spillville. Marcella married Alois Kovarik Nov. 12, 1962, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. Together they farmed south of Spillville, until 1989 when they moved into Spillville. She liked to garden, crochet, feed and watch the birds and she especially liked visiting with family and friends. Marcella was a giving person even upon her death, donating her body to the Mayo Anatomy Department in Rochester. Marcella was a lifetime member of St. Wenceslaus in Spillville.
Marcella is survived by one son, Tom (Diane) Kovarik, Grayslake, Ill.; two grandchildren, Louis and Evelyn Kovarik; brother, Victor (Betty) Shimek, Rochester, Minn.; niece and nephews: Kathy (Dave) Olson, Lakeville, Minn., Cyndie (Rick) Kahn, Plainview Minn., Sheila Shimek, West Salem, Wis., Mary Stika, Catoosa, Okla., Larry Kovarik, Elma, Wesley Kuboushek, Calmar and Leonard (Betty) Kuboushek, Spillville.
Marcella is preceded in death by her husband, Alois Kovarik, Oct. 22, 2010; and daughter, Ruth Kovarik, Jan. 31, 2014.
