Margaret Gossling, age 84 of Fort Atkinson, passed away Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020 at Copper Creek Assisted Living in West Union.
Margaret Barbara (Langreck) Gossling was born on July 11, 1936 the daughter of John and Magdalena “Lena” (Mihm) Langreck in West Union. She graduated from St. Luke’s Catholic School in St. Lucas. Margaret married Martin Gossling on April 7, 1956 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas. Together they raised seven children and farmed together for many years in the Ossian and Waucoma areas. Margaret also worked as a nurse aid for many years before eventually becoming a dietary manager at Oneota Care facility until retiring in 2006. Margaret enjoyed baking and gardening but most of all, loved babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Rosary Society, Catholic daughters and the Jackson Homemakers.
Margaret is survived by her children: Steve Gossling of Waucoma, Janet (Steve) Houdek of Calmar, Ken (Connie) Gossling of Waucoma, Joe Gossling of Lawler Kevin (Lori) Gossling of Calmar, Sue (Duane) Cushion of Maynard, and Scott (Stacey) Gossling of Decorah; grandchildren: Dan Houdek, Jon (Jamie) Houdek, Kristi (Devin ) Creek, Kelly (Ben) Kuennen, Casey (Derek) Rausch, Dayna (Kyle) Soukup, Ryan Gossling, Chad Gossling, Alicia (Scott) Baumler, Nick (Friend Teressa) Gossling and Chloe Gossling; great-grandchildren: Emma, Liam, Gabe, Mitch, Kayla, Austin, Ava, Annika, Greta, Oliver, Jayden, Kinzey, Kortlynn, Eli, Annora, Aphelia and Charlotte. Sisters: Virginia Kuhn, Edna Jirak, Agatha Busta and Lillian Chipera; brothers: Jerry Langreck, Charles (Mildred) Langreck and Clem Langreck; brother-in-law, Norbert (Darlene) Gossling; sisters-in-law, Maryam Gossling FSPA and Gossling.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, John and Magdalena “Lena” (Mihm) Langreck; mother-in-law and father-in-law, John and Augusta Gossling; sisters, Marie Langreck and Beata (Ray) Schmelzer; brothers: Henry (Verda) Langreck, Louis Langreck and Francis (Katherine) Langreck; sisters-in-law: Marie (Frank) Tieskotter, Teresa (Alvin) Myers, Rita (Bob) Gebel, Eileen Langreck and Bernice Langreck; and brothers-in-law: Alphonse Gossling, Julian Kuhn, Larry Jirak, Stanley Busta and Paul Chipera.
Funeral services are Friday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church, Little Turkey, with the Rev. Nick Radloff officiating. Lector is Casey Rausch. Jeanette Dietzenbach is organist and Kim Ball is soloist. Hymns include “Precious Lord”, “Prayer of St. Francis”, “On Eagles Wings” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Casket bearers are Margaret’s grandsons. Honorary casket bearers are Margaret’s granddaughters. Interment is at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Little Turkey. Arrangements are with Schluter-Balik Funeral Home Chekal Chapel, Fort Atkinson.
