Marie Agnes Ferrie was born at home near Schley, IA, on Sept. 9, 1929, 2nd child of Alois and Agnes (Opat) Hruska. After grade school she began working for her neighbor. That is where she met her husband, Joseph Ferrie. The couple married on Sept. 24, 1947, and throughout the years brought six children into the world John, Mary Jane, Patricia, Thomas, Linda, and Alan. Marie and Joe farmed alongside one another until moving into Cresco in 1989.
Marie had a gift for being able to freestyle knit or crochet a picture that she looked at. She was also a talented quilter; often giving them to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Marie was a woman of faith. She was a member of Notre Dame Parish, where she belonged to the altar society, hosted monthly dinners, and helped on the funeral committee. Marie volunteered 35 years at Accura Healthcare of Cresco, was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and RHSHC Auxiliary, and Historical Society.
Those left to cherish her memory are her 6 children John Ferrie of Las Vegas, NV, Mary Jane (Randy) Leach of Fredericksburg, Patricia (Tom) Milz of Stewartville, Minn. Tom (Leone) Ferrie of Cresco, Linda (Douglas) Smith of Decorah, and Alan (SueAnn) Ferrie of Cresco; 15 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph P. Ferrie in 2017, infant brother Leonard, and sister Ruth Fenske.
