Marie Gertrude, the daughter of Auguste (Hartmann) and John Gossling was born April 10, 1930, on a farm near Festina. She attended St. Mary’s Parochial School in Festina. She was united in marriage with Frank Tieskoetter Nov. 4, 1953, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian. They farmed west of Ossian. Marie was a resident of the Ossian Senior Hospice since November 2011 where she received excellent care and became a member of the “family” there.

Marie was an excellent seamstress. She created bridal and bridesmaid dresses for some of her children’s weddings. She liked to garden and family and friends enjoyed many of her goodies like rhubarb desserts, strawberry, peach and especially her apple pie. Marie crocheted many beautiful doilies and afghans throughout the years. She enjoyed reading. Many fun get-togethers with family, friends and neighbors were held at the family farm.

Her grandchildren loved staying overnight and having her delicious breakfasts the next morning, the favorite of which were her homemade pancakes and syrup. Marie’s cinnamon rolls and omelets were also enjoyed by many. It was known that “no one ever left her house hungry” by family and friends. For many years, the family got together to bake Christmas cookies. It was a very fun project with everyone helping and sampling. There were several years when all the grandchildren were all able to get together and do this from the oldest to the youngest.

Marie served as the St. Francis de Sales Rosary Society president and Regent of the Catholic Daughters of our Lady of Victory Court in Ossian. Marie planned and assisted the Catholic Daughters with the many delicious meals they provided for weddings, anniversary celebrations, Christmas parties and many other special events.
