Marilyn Ann Egeland, 85, of Ossian, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Hospice of the Valley, Mesa, Ariz. Visitation is Tuesday, Dec. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Schmitz – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, and one hour before services at the church Wednesday. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Stavanger Lutheran Church, Ossian, with Rev. Wayne Ellingson as the officiant. Burial will follow in Stavanger Lutheran Cemetery, Ossian. Schmitz – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, is helping the family with the arrangements.
Marilyn was born Aug. 28, 1930, to Bert and Helen (Velte) Farmer in Farnam, Neb. She attended country school near Terril, graduated from Terril High School in 1948 and also attended business college in Mankato, Minn. Before getting married, Marilyn worked in Spencer and Estherville. Marilyn was united in marriage with Donald Dean Egeland Dec. 17, 1950, in Terril. Together with her husband, she moved to the Ossian in 1955 and helped out on the farm with Don, while raising their children. Marilyn beat cancer 41 years ago. Marilyn loved sewing and doing the craft shows, quilting and spending time with her family. She was very active in the Stavanger Lutheran Church and was a member of NEIQG and mission and Project Linus quilts. Marilyn and Don were blessed to have been able to spend 30 winters in Arizona.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Donald Egeland of Ossian; three children: Doug (Mary Lou) Egeland, Marcia (Dale) Monroe and Roger (Joan) Egeland, all of Ossian; seven grandchildren: Tami (Jeramy) Monroe, Amy (Grant) Breitsprecher, Morrie (Jess) Monroe, Mindy (Ray) Stoerp, Molly (Ryan) Holthaus, Dustin (Jodi) Egeland and Tyler Egeland (fiancé, Lauren Lefort); nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Carolyn (Rodney) Hansen of Armstrong and Arlene Rouse of Clarksville, Tenn.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Helen Farmer; two grandchildren, Deny and Dave Egeland; sister- and brother-in-law, Myrtle Mae and Claude Shaffer; brother- and sister-in-law, Sam and Donna Farmer; and brother-in-law Norman Rouse.
