Marjorie Corine Larson Amundson

Marjorie Corine Larson Amundson, 98, passed away June 4, 2015, in Postville. Marjorie attended Groth School, Marion Township No. 3, Elgin High School, Iowa State Teachers’ College, and took correspondence courses from the University of Nebraska. She taught for six years in three rural schools in Grand Meadow Township before marrying Almer Amundson. Visitation was Friday, June 12, from 4-7 p.m. at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clermont, and one hour before services at the church Saturday. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont, with Rev. Ron Roberts as the officiant. Interment followed at East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont. Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clermont, helped the family with the arrangements.

Marjorie was a member of East Clermont Lutheran Church, WELCA, Grand Meadow Study Club, Clermont Study Club, Town Ladies Aid, Clermont Historical Society, and Luren Ladies Auxiliary. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years and was a 4-H leader for 15 years. Marjorie was the secretary for East and West Clermont Lutheran Churches for 25 years, too. Marjorie enjoyed doing ceramics, flowers, watching the Goldfinches at her window feeder, cooking/baking and being with family. Marjorie was baptized April 15, 1917, confirmed May 17, 1931, and married Almer Amundson May 28, 1941, all at East Clermont Lutheran Church.

Marjorie is survived by her son, Richard Amundson with his wife, Sally; brother, Oliver Larson with his wife, Darlene; son-in-law, J. H. Gardner; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Khristine Rogers with her husband, Brent, Peter Svebakken with his wife, Amanda and son, Isaac, Hans Svebakken with his wife, Mary Jane and their children, Elias and Annabeth, Rachel Amundson, Rebecca Wilson with her husband, Jeffrey; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren: Sarah Gardner with her husband, Tom Frolick and their daughter, Rivkeh, Hugh Gardner with his wife,  Inmaculada Martin Tapia and Dave Marlow and his son, Gavin Gardner-Marlow.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Amelia and Elmer Larson; her sister, Opal Olson; her brother, LaVerne Larson; her husband, Almer Amundson; her daughter, Kathleen Gardner; her great-granddaughter, Isabella Svebakken and her step-granddaughter, Anna Gardner Marlow.
