Marjorie Sanderson, age 94, of Decorah died on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Wellington Place in Decorah.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at the Helms Funeral Home, 604 South Ave in Decorah, with Rev. David Lenth presiding. Burial will be in the Bluffton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Wednesday. The Helms Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Marjorie Sanderson was born and raised in Ossian, the daughter of Jesse and Sadie (Dinger) Limbeck. She graduated from Ossian High School where she enjoyed playing the saxophone. Marjorie worked at Bell Telephone in Decorah where she was a switchboard operator. This is where she met her husband when he called in to get the correct time, liked her voice and asked her out. They were married in 1952 and had two children, Karen and Keith. She later worked at Luther College for twenty-five years. Marjorie absolutely loved working at Luther. She and Durwin also had a candy counter up by the switchboard where she loved helping the local kids. Marjorie loved cardinals and Siamese cats, which she had two of them. One of lived for 20 years. She retired from Luther on April 1, 1987.
She is survived by her children: Karen Sanderson of Decorah, and Keith (Deb Swestka) Sanderson of Decorah; grandchildren: Shannon (Scott) Casper, Justin (Kelsey) Gates, Christopher Gates and Jennifer Kraft, Miranda Noe and Chad Samec; and by her great-grandchildren: Justin and Terry Kay Ribble, Layla and Natisha Kraft, Dakota Casper, Connor Casper and Brooklyn Casper, Mylee Ribble, Noah Samec, Alexzander Bruke and Alexis Jeanne Schmitt.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband: Durwin Sanderson; great-grandson: Adrian Patrick; parents: Jessie and Sadie (Dinger) Lembeck; sisters: Mathel (Morton) Stee and Georgia Boder; along with many in-laws.
