Mark Berge, age 70 of Decorah, died Monday, April 4, 2022, at Wellington Place nursing home in Decorah.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2022, at the Glenwood Lutheran Church, 1197 Old Stage Road, with Rev. Adam Starrett presiding.? Burial will be in the Glenwood East Cemetery. The Helms Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m., on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at the Helms Funeral Home-604 South Avenue, Decorah and after 10 a.m. at the church on Friday morning.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent in memory of Mark to his wife Kristi at: 2604 167th Avenue Decorah, IA  52101.

Mark Steven Berge was born on Nov. 19, 1951, in Decorah, Iowa to Walter and Ellen (Keefe) Berge. Mark was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. Mark attended Decorah Schools and graduated in 1970. Mark married Kristi (Bigler) on September 22, 1973, at St. John’s Lutheran Church (Locust) in Decorah. Together they had one daughter, Michelle.

At the age of 12, Mark worked at the John Deere Store in Decorah until he was 18 years old. After Mark graduated, he worked for Fred Carlson Company, Kenneth Groth Trucking, and then worked for several over the road trucking companies until he started Berge Transportation. Mark hauled many Claas and Lexion machines while owning his own business. Over the years Mark drove over 5 million miles and traveled to 49 states. Mark was an only child, but Larry and Glen, who he trucked with were like brothers to him. Mark stopped trucking in 2017 when he had back surgery. Mark was diagnosed with ALS also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease in March of 2020. Mark remained at home and was cared for by his wife until his move to Wellington Place on April 1, 2022.

Mark’s greatest joy was his three grandchildren – Keagen, Karter, and Karlie.

Mark is survived by his wife Kristi; daughter and son-in-law: Michelle and Ryan Einck, Decorah; grandson: Keagen Einck and granddaughter: Karlie Einck. Mark is also survived by his Juve “brothers,” many cousins, brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Mark was preceeded in death by his parents Walter and Ellen (Keefe) Berge; his father-in-law and mother in-law: Roy and Esther (Larson) Bigler.; and grandson: Karter Einck on Dec. 17, 2021.
