Marvin (Marv) Dean Roe was born Sept. 8,1947, in Waukon, the son of Orrin and Julia (Olson) Roe. He was baptized at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon. He attended Waukon schools. He worked as a heavy machinery mechanic for Cooney Construction in Waukon, Holland Brothers in Decorah, and Mathy Construction in Onalaska, Wis. Marv was a member of the Local139 Operating Engineers Union. Marv was an avid stock car driver when he was younger and enjoyed traveling. He was always available to answer questions or solve a problem for family and friends. Marv was happy to share his experiences and knowledge and was willing to lend a hand at any time. His playful bantering with family and friends ultimately brought everyone closer. He most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. “Grandpa Marv” worked with his hands but lived with his heart and gave freely of both.

Survivors include his children: Shannon (Joe) Breitenstein of Decorah, Rachel Curtin of Waukon, Joshua (Liz) Roe of Decorah, Sally (Roy) Waterworth of Waukon, and Haley Roe of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren: Tyler (Amber) Baker and Justin (Julia) Baker; Brenden and Kasi Curtin; Megan, Amelia, and Evan Roe; Cody, Dylan, and Sara Waterworth; one great-grandchild Isaac Baker; and two brothers, Ron (Roberta) Roe of Carroll and Curt (Cheryl) Roe of Waukon.

He was preceded in death by his father, Orrin; his mother, Julia Bernhardt; and two of his brothers, Russell (in infancy) and Allen.
