Mary Moser, age 91, of Fort Atkinson, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, at the Helms Funeral Home Chekal Chapel, 201 Main Street in Fort Atkinson, IA followed by a prayer service with Deacon Jim Zajicek presiding. Burial will follow in the St. John’s Cemetery in Fort Atkinson.
Mary Rose “Rose Mary” “Rosie” (Reicks) Moser born March 17, 1931. The daughter of Clement and Hannah (Drilling) Reicks in Fort Atkinson. She attended St. John’s School and one year at Fort High School. She finished high school in Milwaukee, WI and worked there for four years and a year in Chicago, Ill.. She returned to Fort Atkinson in 1951 working several different places. On Jan. 17, 1953, she married Daniel A. Moser at St. John’s Church. They had three children: David Paul, Susan Kay, and Sandra Mae.
In 1967 Mary started working at Winneshiek Memorial Hospital where she worked for nearly ten years. In 1968, she started working part-time at the United States Postal Service. Mary would continue working there for twenty-three years, in her last five years she was the postmaster in Fort. She served several terms on the City Council in Fort Atkinson, she was the president of the American Legion Auxillary, president of the Ladies Guild, served many years on the Historical Preservation Organization in Fort Atkinson, and was also a member of the Fort City Museum board. Mary was on the committee that put together the “History of Fort Atkinson” book. In her free time, she enjoyed serving, quilting, going for walks, and spending time with her family and friends.
Mary is survived by her husband, Daniel Moser; children: David (Mitzy) Moser, Susan (Michael) Stammeyer, and son-in-law, Charles Nelson.; grandchildren: Jeremy (Ramona) Stammeyer, Jessie (Travis) Lennon, and Sara Nelson; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra; parents: Clement and Hannah Reicks; father and mother-in-law: Henry and Catherine Moser.’ siblings: Eleanor Kirby, Bill Reicks, Ervin Reicks, Melvin Reicks, and Clarence Reicks; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Vivian (Art) Huber, Raymond (Chris) Moser, Mildred (Bart) Hemesath, and Art Moser.
