Mavis Marie Vine

Mavis Marie Vine, 82, of Melbourne, Fla., passed away peacefully at home May 7, 2017. The family held a Celebration of Life June 4 at 4:30 p.m., hosted by the Fountains, Commons area. The Fountains has been Mavis and Carl’s home for the last three years. A reception was held immediately following in the Fountains dining room.

Mavis was born Oct. 30, 1934, in Postville, the daughter of Kenneth E. and Mildred S. Johnson Livingood. Mavis was one of 11 children. She graduated valedictorian of her high school in Canton, Minn. in 1953.

She married Carleton Auf. 23, 1953, at the Mabel, Minn. Methodist Church. Mavis and Carl first lived in Minnesota and Iowa, where their three daughters were born. In 1961, they moved to Fond du Lac, Wis. and had their fourth child, a son. In 1969 Mavis went to work at Wells to help support the family and aid Carl to attend college. In 1973, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. In 1978, they transferred to Florida with Mercury Marine. In 1980 Mavis began college. In 1982 Carl was transferred back to Wisconsin, where Mavis resumed her studies. In 1985, she graduated from Moraine Tech, West Bend, Wis., as a registered nurse. In 1986, Carl transferred back to Florida. Mavis worked as a registered nurse at the St. Cloud Health Center, St. Cloud Hospital and St. Cloud Health. She retired from nursing in 1999 and later volunteered – first as a hospital “pink lady” and then also for the Red Cross, Hospice and the St. Cloud Food Pantry.
Mavis and Carl traveled throughout their life together. In the early years with their family they camped in over 39 states, pulling campers and eventually in RVs. Their travel was often with many family and friends. They also traveled to Alaska twice, and to Hawaii and Mexico. After retiring, they traveled to Europe three times, traveling with their good friends the Kiehnes in 1997, Mike and Louise’s family in 2001 and Kris and Greg’s family in 2007. They traveled frequently to Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and California to visit family. She and Carl dedicated much time, love and care to Kris during her periods of illness and to Debbie during her illness and recovery. Carl and Mavis purchased a second home in Crossville, Tenn., and enjoyed visits from many friends and family. Mavis and Carl traveled in 1992 to the Dominican Republic, performing mission work assisting physicians with medical care and building a school house.

Besides her loving husband of nearly 64 years, Carl, she is survived by her daughter, Debra and husband Kevin Glasgow, Jackson, Wis.; daughter, Julie Vine, Mukwonago, Wis.; son, Michael Vine and wife, Louise, Melbourne, Fla.; son-in-law, Greg Glass, Fair Oaks, Calif. And six grandchildren: Rebecca Glass, Jonathan Jagdfeld, Jacob Vine, Jessica Jagdfeld, Sarah Glass, Michaela Vine. She also had three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving Mavis are her sister, Donna Geerdes, Rochester, Minn.; brother, Milton Livingood, Northfield, Minn.; and brother, Garland Livingood, Waterville, Minn. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Krisandra Vine; her parents; sisters: Ivanelle Soland, Violet Livingood, June Livingood and Mary Ann Virgilito; and her brothers: Robert Livingood, Darrell Livingood and Paul Livingood.
