Mavis I. Mitchell, 81, of rural Monona, died Friday, Nov.27, 2020, at her home.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m. at Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon, with Pastor Kim Gates officiating. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery, Rossville.
In consideration of concerns regarding Covid-19, social distancing and wearing of masks is required. Condolences may be sent to Darrell Mitchell at 764 Bigfoot Road, Monona, IA 52159.
Mavis Irene Mitchell was born Sept. 8, 1939, in Decorah, the daughter of Orlando and Helen (Overacker) Otteson. She attended Freeport country schools and Decorah High School. Mavis spent her whole life in Northeast Iowa, farming on the family farm in the Rossville area. She married Darrell D. Mitchell. She enjoyed fishing, plants and flowers, and watching the birds and deer. Her hobbies also included embroidery and playing cards. Mavis loved spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren grow.
She is survived by her husband, Darrell of rural Monona; children: Myron (Diane) Cronin of La Crescent, Minn., Virginia (Kerry) Gilbertson of Rossville, and Randy (Kimberly) Cronin of Rossville; grandchildren: Catherine Weipert and Xevier, Jesse, Cody, Stephanie, and David Cronin; and great-grandchildren: Austin and Allen Ludeking, Kelsey Weipert, and Isaac Cronin.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; her sister Esther Houck; and her brother Merton (Dale) Otteson.
Honorary casketbearers are Doug and Sharon Kubitz, Wes and Brenda Lawson, and Virgil and Debbie Thorstenson. Casketbearers are Mike Conway, Steve Dismore, Kevin Lee, Steve Leiran, Warren Linnevold, and Jerry Otteson.
